Are there DVDs (not blu-ray) with more than 8.5 GB of memory?

I have a DVD copy of True Grit. I am trying to copy it onto another DVD, but it my computer says it has 24.2 GB of data on it, so it will not copy at full quality (I use DVD fab). It is NOT a Blu Ray disc. It plays in my standard DVD player. I have checked other DVDs on my computer and they show the normal amount of data on them. I have never had a problem copying any other DVD. How is this possible?
